چکیده

Submit Manuscript | http://medcraveonline.com membranes, passage of germs into the cavity and fetal swallowing of these and their inflammation products have been described by different authors. The arrival of germs to the amniotic cavity by haematogenous route is also possible but much less frequent. This process of ascent and colonization of the membranes by different microorganisms is generally slow and is influenced by factors such as type and inoculum of agents involved, and immune conditions of the host. The fetal response in a final stage could also be determinant for the onset of labor and the risk of fetal involvement with the appearance of a clinical picture known as fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS). The aim of this study was to define the frequency of the intra-amniotic infection in patients with short cérvix and/or amniotic fluid (AF) “sludge”. The pregnancy outcome and his relationship with preterm delivery (PD) and/or preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) was evaluated.

Intraamniotic Inflammation in Women with Preterm Prelabor Rupture of Membranes

OBJECTIVE To characterize subgroups of preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (PPROM) and short-term neonatal outcomes based on the presence and absence of intraamniotic inflammation (IAI) and/or microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity (MIAC). METHODS One hundred and sixty-six Caucasian women with singleton pregnancies were included in this study. Amniotic fluid samples were obtained by tran...

Detection of a microbial biofilm in intraamniotic infection.

OBJECTIVE Microbial biofilms are communities of sessile microorganisms formed by cells that are attached irreversibly to a substratum or interface or to each other and embedded in a hydrated matrix of extracellular polymeric substances. Microbial biofilms have been implicated in >80% of human infections such as periodontitis, urethritis, endocarditis, and device-associated infections. Thus far,...

Soluble TLR2 is present in human amniotic fluid and modulates the intraamniotic inflammatory response to infection.

TLRs are pattern recognition transmembrane receptors that play key roles in innate immunity. A recently discovered soluble truncated form of TLR2 (sTLR2) acts as a decoy receptor, down-regulating the host inflammatory response to bacteria. To identify the presence and functional role of sTLR2 in modulating the intraamniotic inflammatory response to infection, we studied 109 amniotic fluid sampl...

Frequency and clinical significance of short cervix in patients with preterm premature rupture of membranes

OBJECTIVE Cervical length measurement has been uggested as a useful tool for predicting intra-amniotic infection/inflammation in preterm labor, but little information is available in the setting of preterm premature rupture of membranes (pPROM). We aimed to determine whether a short cervical length is independently associated with an increased risk of intra-amniotic infection or inflammation an...

A sonographic short cervix as the only clinical manifestation of intra-amniotic infection.

OBJECTIVE A sonographically short cervix is a powerful predictor of spontaneous preterm delivery. However, the etiology and optimal management of a patient with a short cervix in the mid-trimester of pregnancy remain uncertain. Microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity (MIAC) and intra-amniotic inflammation are frequently present in patients with spontaneous preterm labor or acute cervical insu...
